Exploring very locally a range of plants and their communities, investigating our relationship with them and considering how we experience them inthe wider context of climate change.

With gentle, slow walking, over very short distances, with plenty of standing and observing, we will explore communities of plants in the Claridge House Gardens and very locally on foot.  Our focus will be on enjoying the breadth and depth of the plant kingdom, rather than just identification (excluding fungi which are now studied separately).

If you are interested in plants, why they matter and would like to explore more, this is a course for you.

Please bring:

- A note book and pencil/electronic device and if you already have one, a hand lens

- Your favourite plant poem or short piece of prose to share on Wednesday evening

- Waterproof and hot weather clothing/sun hat/sun cream/strong non slip walking shoes (not sandals)

- epipen/medications as necessary for allergies

- any favourite plant books you already have to share

Letta Jones, MA, is a Lecturer in Horticulture and Garden History who lectured at Birkbeck and Capel Manor Colleges in London for 15 years.

She has taught course at Glenthorne Quaker Centre in Grasmere for over 10 years, and at Woodbrooke until 2018.  The Quaker Botanists Panel in Kendal Museum is one of her special interests, and courses on this are also offered.

Time to reflect on your potential and work towards success, but in order to harness the energy of the moon, you must understand the spiritual meaning of the July full moon first and use this energy to help propel you into the latter half of the year.

The best way to do that is to pay attention to your surroundings and take inventory of the practices and relationships that no longer serve you or  advance your life.

Please join us for a weekend of deep meditation as we release the weight of both past and future and be Present together in the heart and now.

It`s a good time to clarify your goals and acknowledge your growth since the beginning of the year.   Perseid meteor showers start on the 17th July and what better place than Claridge House to view these.

What is prayer?

Many of us have a problem with the word, maybe the whole concept, of prayer.  This weekend will give us the opportunity to share what we feel about it and explore different types of prayer.  What is prayer?  Who or what do we pray to?  Does it work?

This workshop offers a rare opportunity to share something of our spiritual lives and practice.  We will consider how forms of collective and individual prayer in different traditions are reflected in our own spiritual practice, if we have one.  We will explore the practice of contemplative prayer and the possibility of an entire life lived as prayer.  Is prayer the same as worship?

We will spend the weekend as a community, with time in plenary, as well as sharing in pairs and groups.  These will be input, some readings, and time for solitary consideration.

We will also use the Prayer card game as a tool of exploration.

Meeting Menopause Retreat

This weekend experience offers a time to process, prepare for or integrate the changes and challenges of menopause. Our focus is on providing support and resources for the psychological and emotional impact of this important life transition.

We will use a powerful combination of stories and myths (as maps to the unconscious), simple physical practices and meditation (drawing on yoga and qi gong), time in nature, psychological processes (such as shadow work, archetypes, and dreamwork) and creativity techniques. We use these different ways of knowing to explore our inner world and what messages from the soul or the unconscious may be waiting to bring us some insights.

It is an opportunity to sit in circle with other women, share stories and tap into the collective intelligence of a group of wise women.

The weekend is part of a longer Meeting Menopause support programme that

includes 6 individual on-line counselling sessions and a weekend retreat with a group of 10-15 women.

Facilitated and held by Fiona Bibby (BACP registered Counsellor, Integral coach, facilitator and qualified yoga teacher) and Sarah Sutcliffe (BACP registered counsellor and Storyteller).

Using mindfulness meditative techniques, this totally silent retreat offers an opportunity to contemplate in the transition from autumn to winter the meaning of change, uncertainty and adjustment
Set in the time of year when we start to transit from autumn to winter, this retreat will enable us to go within and integrate change and all it means for us and go into a hibernatory period that is winter with clarity and equanimity.

This may be especially relevant in these ever changing times we are living in where we are asked to be more in a state of being than doing.

Anne Simpson, an experienced Course Facilitator and Quaker Healer, will be running this silent retreat.
